The Sheep and Goat Electronic Identification (eID) Implementation Plan in Australia aims to enhance traceability and biosecurity in the livestock sector. This plan mandates the use of electronic identification tags for all sheep and goats, enabling the rapid and accurate tracking of these animals from birth to slaughter. The system supports the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS), which helps manage disease outbreaks, improve food safety, and bolster market access. To find out more about the grant scheme, implementation plan, and other general information, see below.
The grant scheme for on-farm infrastructure such as; handheld wands and panel readers does not open until 1 July 2024, when relevant documents will then be uploaded.
