The sixth biennial Small Farm Living Field Day is an opportunity for land managers on small farms and rural lifestyle properties to access a wealth of information about sustainability, biosecurity, and resilience on the land.
Organised by NRM
North in partnership with Lilydale Landcare, the hugely popular event will this
year feature a wide range of demonstrations from mastering fencing techniques
to monitoring native animals, as well as presentations from a host of experts on
property planning and mapping, soil health, livestock management, cat
management, and the conservation of biodiversity values on-farm.
NRM North Biodiversity Program Manager Kate Thorn said since being launched 10 years ago, the Small Farm Living Program has supported hundreds of the region's small landholders through information, property planning advice, and small grants for environmental works. "While we expect to see smallholders from near and far on the day, there are likely to be some prospective property owners as well. It's great to see people researching the kind of land management issues they may deal with in taking on a small property, and also the potential in terms of different crops, livestock, and other uses," said Ms Thorn.
