Calling innovators: $4 Million funding available for large-scale livestock emission reduction trials in Tasmania

The Low Emissions Livestock Grant Program aims to support one or more large-scale trials of feed supplements to reduce emissions from livestock, to encourage the large-scale commercial uptake of low emissions livestock technologies in Tasmania.

Preference will be given to projects that demonstrate economic and social benefits to the Tasmanian community.

A total of $4 million has been allocated to support this commitment, with grant amounts up to $4 million available.

Applications are currently open and will close on the 29th of February 2024 at 11:59pm.

Potential Program Priorities:
This program builds on existing Tasmanian Government funding to support the development of commercial feed supplements to reduce emissions from livestock in Tasmania.

To be eligible for a grant under the program, projects must:

  • Commence by December 2024 and be completed by December 2027
  • Involve one or more large-scale trials to deliver feed supplements to livestock in Tasmania
  • Use technology that current research has shown has a reasonable likelihood to deliver emission reductions from livestock
  • Be undertaken in Tasmania, with engagement and collaboration with Tasmanian livestock producers and the supply chain.
  • Preference will be given to projects that demonstrate economic and social benefits to the Tasmanian community.

Potential Grant Amount:
Eligible applicants can apply for grants up to $4 million from the total available funding of $4 million.

Co-contribution? Co-contribution of at least 20% of the total project costs are required, however higher contributions will be considered more favourably in assessment of criteria 4.

When to apply:
Applications are open from 15 December 2023, and close 29th February 2024 at 11:59pm.

Who can apply:
To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Be registered for tax purposes in Australia with an active Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Be an entity with an existing and ongoing presence located in Tasmania or show evidence of a partnership with an entity with an existing and ongoing presence located in Tasmania
  • Be registered for GST
