King and Flinders Island Farm Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme

19 July 2024

The Tasmanian Government is offering a rebate to livestock primary producers on King and Flinders Islands to purchase and install new on-farm water infrastructure, or repair and/or replace damaged existing on-farm water infrastructure.

These rebates address animal welfare needs and improve resilience to drought. Recipients will be required to demonstrate that they are from the grazing industry, or other eligible primary producers on the Islands will be considered on a case by case basis.

The King and Flinders Island Farm Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme (KFI Scheme) supports the development of drought resilient farming businesses, and recognises the specific circumstances and extra costs involved for agribusiness on the Bass Strait Islands.

The KFI Scheme is now open for applications and will close 24 December 2024 or until funds are exhausted. Evidence that project activities are completed will need provided by 30 June 2025.

Applications can be submitted online through SmartyGrants

The KFI Scheme provides a one off 25 per cent rebate up to $15,000 (GST Exclusive) to eligible primary producers for the costs associated with the purchase and installation of eligible on farm water infrastructure and/or repairs.

To further support resilience development, an additional $2,500 (GST Exclusive) Rebate is available to primary producers who can provide evidence of an existing drought risk management plan or completed Farm Business Resilience (FBR) Plan.

  • Farmers are encouraged to participate in the Farm Business Resilience (FBR) Program to either review or develop a farm plan. However, if you have an existing plan that you wish to submit with your application, key things to note are that the Plans should be tailored and fit for purpose for each farm business enterprise, should identify risks and actions to build resilience, outline an approach as to how the farm business enterprise will implement actions and how the farm business enterprise will monitor/review progress against the plan.  The strategic planning and risk elements should address people and culture, business risks including farm safety and natural resource management components of the farm.
  • The FBR Program is being delivered by either DairyTas or RMCG.  Interested farmers are encouraged to enrol in the FBR Program to receive subsidised training and coaching to complete their Plans by 30 June 2025.
