With an ethos deeply rooted in sustainability and community, the event casts a spotlight on the artisans who cultivate, nurture, and create the food we enjoy, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the commitment and passion that defines Tasmanian agriculture.
One stand out event, Conversations in the City, serves as a vibrant and engaging platform for dialogue and discussion. With keynote speaker Joost Bakker taking the lead, a series of unique encounters and enlightening panel discussions set in Launceston’s Civic Square bring together key thinkers, innovators, and creators in the realm of agriculture, food, and culture.
The event features three intriguing streams, each examining an essential aspect of our food future. The first stream, ‘Climate Smart Agriculture’, is a presentation by Farmers for Climate Action, which brings together Tasmania's leading farming voices. Here, attendees will gain insights into the innovative practices Tassie farmers are adopting to build a prosperous, climate-resilient farming future.

The second stream, ‘Aspirations for Agritourism’, takes you into the heart of the agritourism industry, presented by Agritourism Tasmania. The conversation will revolve around food, tourism, sustainability, and the pressing issues shaping our food systems. International and Tasmanian trailblazers and experts will delve into the alternative futures of agritourism that prioritise harmony between land, culture, and community.
The final stream, ‘Investing in Future Food’, is a collaboration between FermenTas and Startupbootcamp Australia, featuring contributions from the University of Tasmania, Milk Road, and Tenacious Ventures. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about angel investing in promising agrifood sector startups. They will also get a behind-the-scenes look at 6 startups pitching their business ideas, highlighting the entrepreneurial culture in Northern Tasmania.
Conversations in the City truly brings the rural wisdom of the countryside into the heart of urban Tasmania, bridging the gap between city and soil.
