The Threatened Species Scientific Committee has applied for the Eucalyptus Viminalis, wet white gum forest, to be added to the listing as a threatened ecological species under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act.
The trees are usually found in areas with over 1000mm of rainfall or in reliable areas of water supply and in moderately fertile to fertile well-draining soils. The trees are mainly in the Central North of the state and sporadic in other areas of the state.
The EPBC listing would mean the trees would be conserved in the position that they stand. For agricultural landowners this may limit agricultural production of that land that the trees stand.
More information on the EPBC listing can be found here.
If there is any Eucalyptus Viminalis wet forest on your property, then we would like to hear from you. Currently there is public consultation open till the 7th February.
