Building the Next Leaders for Industry: TMEC Launches GEMS Program

09 October 2024

The Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing, and Energy Council (TMEC) has introduced an innovative program designed to empower women in industries traditionally dominated by male workers. The GEMS Program (Growth, Empowerment, Management, Selfcare) is open to women across various sectors, providing mentorship, leadership development, and opportunities to connect with industry professionals.

The program is not mining-centric but aims to support women from all sectors stepping into non-traditional roles. It also seeks mentors who are keen to upskill and support these emerging leaders. By offering a comprehensive set of workshops, mentoring, and networking events, TMEC is committed to breaking down barriers and inspiring women to excel in leadership positions.

Program Highlights:

  • Workshops: Participants will attend three full-day workshops designed to enhance leadership skills, including personality profiling (DISC), communication training, and a board paper presentation. Guest panelists will share their leadership experiences, and the final workshop will be tailored based on participant feedback.
  • Mentorship: Each participant will be paired with a mentor who will provide guidance over six months, with one-hour monthly meetings focusing on achieving personal and professional goals. Mentors will receive training to ensure a valuable experience for both parties.
  • Networking & Celebration: Participants will have the chance to network with peers and industry professionals throughout the program, culminating in a celebratory cocktail event in 2025.

Key Dates and Program Commitment:

  • Workshop 1: October 28th, 2024
  • Workshop 2: January 30th, 2025
  • Workshop 3: March 24th, 2025
