Ag Innovation Expo 2025 to showcase the latest in ag tech solutions

02 April 2025

A twilight drone demonstration is set to kick off the Ag Innovation Expo 2025 from 15-16 April at Hagley Farm School, where attendees will learn the latest in the future of farming and the practical applications of emerging agricultural technologies to improve soil health.

Organised by the Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group (TAPG), the expo will bring together farmers, industry experts and researchers from across Tasmania and interstate. It is a unique opportunity for attendees to see new technologies in action, learn from leaders in the field, and connect with peers who share a passion for improving agricultural practices.

This year’s theme, ‘Soil Health and Paddock Preparation,’ will focus on practical, real-world solutions to challenges that farmers face every day. Whether it’s tackling soil compaction, adopting new tillage methods, or exploring sustainable farming practices, this expo will provide farmers with the tools and insights they need to drive efficiency and productivity on their farms.

TAPG Executive Terry Brient said, “This event is more than just a showcase of technology – it’s about giving farmers tangible, actionable solutions that they can implement on the ground. Our goal is to make sure that the innovations we present at this expo are practical and effective in a real-world farming environment.”

Learning from industry experts

A highlight of this year’s expo is an in-field soil management demonstraWon on soil compacWon with Professor Dick Godwin, an internaWonally respected expert in soil mechanics based in the United Kingdom. Professor Godwin will discuss practical ways to manage soil more effectively through farm traffic management, including how low ground pressure tyres can reduce compaction and the use of light autonomous vehicles to make farming operations more efficient and sustainable.

Ian Layden from the Queensland Department of Primary Industries will share updates on advancements in ag tech over the past 10 years, including the Hort InnovaWon-funded ‘Advanced Vegetable MechanisaWon Project’, new technologies in the pipeline and how growers can get involved. The project will also be showcasing the FarmDroid, an autonomous seeder and weeder with an onsite demonstration.

RMCG Associate Dr Doris Blaesing and 2024 Bayer HorWculture Researcher of the Year will lead a panel discussion with onion growers and packers on the key drivers for onion quality and pack out to help growers get the most from a crop and remain competitive against interstate and international markets.

The expo will also feature a trade show with over 35 exhibitors and industry partners, bringing together all aspects of the agriculture industry to exchange ideas and collaborate on soluWons to current challenges.

“The Ag InnovaWon Expo 2025 is more than just an opportunity to learn from experts – it's a place for farmers and industry leaders to come together and exchange ideas,” Mr Brient said. “The expo is shaping up to be an exciting, informative, and practical event for anyone involved in agriculture. If you’re looking to explore new technologies, improve farm efficiency, or simply connect with peers in the industry, there will be something for everyone.”

TasFarmers CEO Nathan Calman highlighted the expo’s importance to the sector: “It’s not oien that farmers get to see so many new technologies in one place. The Ag InnovaWon Expo gives them the chance to see how these innovaWons can directly benefit their farms and improve profitability.” Explore the full program and register here.
