The wet weather that has been experienced over the last week has resulted in crop and landscape damage for many Tasmanian farmers, according to the State’s peak agricultural body.
“The unprecedented rain has come at a time when the soil profiles are already saturated,’’ TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said.
“In many ways, this latest event will pose an even greater challenge to many of our farmers, with some crops already in the ground, and others delayed due to wet paddocks.
“Some growers are choosing not to take the risk of losing crops to water logging, and are looking for alternative income options instead.”
The TFGA is encouraging all farmers to reach out and ask for help if required. For general flood advice and support call the flood recovery Taskforce (1800567567), for financial counselling and support call Rural Business Tasmania (1800 883 276), or call Rural Alive and Well (RAW) on 1300 4357 6283) for emotional support and advice.
