The State’s peak farming organisation has called for all political parties to put Tasmanians first when it comes to energy prices.
The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) has called upon all political parties running candidates in next year’s State election to support a reduction in energy costs.
“The TFGA has long advocated for Tasmanians to be charged the true cost of energy production, as opposed to the current system where costs are substantially based on those of Victoria,’’ TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said.
“An innovative government should support Tasmanian farmers and businesses by ensuring that they have the lowest energy costs in the country.
“Tasmania is uniquely placed, in the current national electricity grid debacle, to exploit our advantage of cheap renewable power. Governments should be encouraging mainland businesses to come to Tasmania to take advantage of this opportunity thereby stimulating economic growth and securing and expanding regional jobs.”
