Registrations are now open for the 2017 Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association’s (TFGA) annual gala dinner.
The event, sponsored by WFI, will be held at Country Club Tasmania, Launceston, on Thursday, June 22, from 6.30 pm.
TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said that farmers had proven their resilience and strength in 2016.
“Our gala dinner is the ideal place to build on that strength, and join together to celebrate all that is good about Tasmanian agriculture – the innovation, the resourcefulness, the sense of community, and the pride that we have in being one of the key pillars of the State’s economy,'' Mr Skillern said.
Guest speaker for the evening will be former ABC rural reporter Rose Grant.
A respected specialist in temperate agricultural systems, Rose spent 30 years with the ABC. During that time, Rose worked on state and national programs like the ABC Country Hour and spent 16 years presenting the Rural Report in northern Tasmania before she resigned earlier this year.
As well as winning awards for outstanding stories and programs, Rose received the ABC's Rural Reporter of the Year Award for her work and a Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group Award for Agricultural Excellence for developing the broader community's positive perception of agriculture.
Rose has a degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Tasmania and a Masters of Agriculture and Rural Development from the University of Western Sydney (Hawkesbury).
“Rose has been a champion for our industry for many years, as well as independent researcher of agriculture and rural affairs,’’ Mr Skillern said.
