Tasmania's Biosecurity Strengthened with New Investment, Says TFGA

TFGA welcomes today's announcement by the state government to invest in Tasmania's Biosecurity by recruiting five new biosecurity inspectors.

TFGA understands the need to protect the biosecurity of Tasmania's primary industries and acknowledges that this investment highlights how vital the farming sector is to the Tasmanian economy and our daily lives.

CEO Hugh Christie said that by bolstering our biosecurity system, we can ensure the safety and integrity of our state's farming produce.

He said, "Adding five new, permanent, full-time biosecurity inspectors will undoubtedly help strengthen our biosecurity efforts and encourage the community to assist by remaining vigilant and complying with the necessary rules around biosecurity".

The TFGA supports the independent findings of Dr Hugh Millar and is pleased to recognise the continued emphasise and dedicated focus on the importance of prevention and early detection.

"Tasmania is very much an agricultural state, and we are highly vulnerable to introducing new pests and diseases, which can devastate our crops and livestock.

"The TFGA commends the Government for continuing to invest in prevention and early detection activities whilst continuing to educate the community on the importance of biosecurity and the role they play in protecting Tasmanian agriculture.

"The state's investment is vital to ensuring that our sector is protected and equipped to respond to any biosecurity threat," he said.
