Tasmania – Celebrate National Agriculture Day

16 November 2021

National Agriculture Day will be celebrated Australia-wide on Friday 19 November 2021 and the TFGA urges everyone to take a moment to think of and thank our farmers.

During COVID-19 farmers had our back, everyday continuing to grow the food and fibre, we all depend on. We may have worried about a shortage of toilet paper at times, but we never had to worry about the supply of milk, meat, bread, fruit, and vegetables, thanks to our farmers.

Tasmanian farmers are renowned for the diversity and the exceptional quality of the products they produce. Here in Tasmania, we have locally produced dairy products including a wide variety of cheeses, yogurts, and ice creams as well as that wonderful milk we need for that mandatory morning coffee. Did you know Tasmania dairy farmers produced 961 million litres of milk last year, a record!

Then we have our outstanding red meat sector with some of the finest beef and lamb available anywhere in the world. Indeed, the world is increasingly looking to Tasmania to source red meat as they become more aware of our great pastures, climate, animal genetics and producers. Who could blame them after trying what we have!

The humble Tassie potato is another favourite. The parma or burger just does not look the same without chips and often, it is thanks to our Tasmanian potato growers that we can enjoy them on the side. Of course, we also produce carrots, peas, beans, cauliflowers, onions, broccolini and more. That is beginning to sound like a full plate for the Sunday roast, thanks to Tasmanian farmers.

Next, dessert. We have the cream and ice cream sorted (thanks dairy farmers) so now we can add the Tasmanian grown cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

This National Agriculture Day, celebrate the everyday extraordinary efforts of our Tasmanian farmers and all that is good about Australian agriculture.
