TasFarmers declare new parliament must deliver results

Tasmanian peak body for farmers says the declaration of the polls by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission means it is time for action and the parliament to deliver for Tasmanians.

TasFarmers President Ian Sauer said the peak body was engaging with independents and minor parties to address the state's agricultural challenges and moving forward once the cabinet was finalised would meet with the Agricultural Minister.

Mr Sauer said, “TasFarmers will remain proactive in advocating for the agricultural sector's needs and looks forward to productive discussions with the government and those holding the balance of power.

“We plan to engage with the Premier and Agricultural minister in the coming weeks now the poll has been declared. Ensuring industry confidence demands a clear pathway and schedule for the government to fulfil its commitments.

“We will actively engage with the government, requesting a detailed timeline for meeting these obligations.

“TasFarmers also has written to independents and minor parties seeking to engage with them on the state’s agricultural issues, and we are more than open to holding discussions with them once the cabinet has been announced.

“With farmers experiencing some of the driest conditions on record, farmers are confronted with numerous critical challenges. It’s time for the minor parties and independents to get behind the Rockliff government and guarantee supply and confidence so it might deliver on its policy program.

TasFarmers took to the election a comprehensive election package which we believe when implemented will support the industry growth from $2.6 billion to 10 billion by 2050.
