Draft Cat Management Plan welcomed

21 April 2016

Tasmania has had a self-sustaining feral cat population for more than a century, and this has had a significant impact on the State’s biodiversity, and human and livestock health.

The State’s peak farming body has welcomed today’s release of the Draft Tasmanian Cat Management Plan for consultation with the broader community

“The TFGA welcomes this initiative and looks forward to assisting the State Government and the community to implement a new plan to control domestic and feral cats,’’ CEO Peter Skillern said.

“While recognising the complexity surrounding this issue we are confident that an appropriate management plan can be realised.’’

The TFGA encourages farmers and others within the community to actively participate in the consultation process on this important issue. All documents and information are available from www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au
