Tasmania’s peak advocacy body for farmers today announces the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Nathan Calman.
Currently the Brewery Director of J. Boag and Son in Launceston, Mr Calman will assume the pivotal role at the helm of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) early in the new year.
Mr Calman said, ”I’ve always had a keen interest in farming and
agriculture, I aim to hit the ground running to understand the pressures on
members and the support they require to prosper and grow the industry in
Tasmania.”
Addressing immediate priorities Mr Calman said his focus will be on the issues impacting farmers today.
“What I see right now as a priority is addressing the fire levy, ongoing infrastructure projects like Marinus, navigating the broader challenges linked to compulsory land acquisition, and making sure TFGA members see value for their membership," he said.
President of the TFGA, Ian Sauer said Mr Calman was selected after a meticulous search was undertaken to find the most suitable candidate.
Mr Sauer said “Nathan comes with an excellent understanding of our strategic needs and the importance of the work we do in the advocacy and policy space.
“There are many pressing issues affecting farmers, particularly
when it comes to ongoing infrastructure developments, the treatment of farmers,
and tackling the severity of the current dry season.
“The TFGA Board are pleased to announce Nathan’s appointment to the role of CEO
at what is a critical time for the sector. Nathan will continue supporting our
members, making a real difference, and ensuring the continued growth of the
organisation.
“The board and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Interim Chief Executive Officer Alastair Cameron, who will lead the handover to Nathan.
“He has guided the TFGA with the utmost professionalism and maintaining a positive momentum in our advocacy for farmers. We deeply appreciate his efforts and dedication as Interim CEO,” Mr Sauer said.
About Nathan Calman
For the last 16 years, Mr Calman has worked for Lion across NSW
and Tasmania. He grew up in South Australia and studied Food Science and
Technology at the University of Adelaide. After completing his degree, he
achieved his Honours by investigating the influence of Barley genetics and
agronomic conditions on the impact of beer and brewing quality.
Mr Calman is a qualified Master Brewer from the Institute of
Brewing and Distilling in the UK and has a Masters of Business Administration
from UniSA. Mr Calman is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of
Company Directors. He has been a board member of Self Help Workplace in
Youngtown for the last six years, the Chairperson for the last three years.
