Just a note to say how much my class enjoyed their Kids2Farms excursion at Hagley Farm and how it opened up their eyes to the demands and possibilities of a farming career. They were exhausted by the end of the day, but full of questions and wonderings, and excited to tell their parents about their day as farmers.

Thank you for allowing us this fabulous opportunity – it was learning that we could never achieve within the four walls of the classroom. What a great program! And thank you to Claire and the TFGA Kids to Farms for funding our transport. Without you we could not have had the opportunity to take part.

At Hagley I learnt how to make butter. I found out it is made from cream. I also learnt that the soil has to be a specific temperature because I thought that you could plant plants at any temperature. I thought it was very interesting.

What I thought was interesting was when we tested the soil for the P.H, temperature and warmth. I also learnt how to do it correctly. I thought that the weighing of the cows was really fun. That was my favourite part of the whole trip.

It was a fabulous excursion that they will long remember and was perfectly tailored to their grade level. I was particularly impressed with the way in which values were an integral part of the farming and education program - it opened up the children’s eyes to the fact that showing Respect can also mean the way that we care not only for each other but also for the welfare of animals and the environment. .
It was also great for the IT lovers amongst the children to see that IT is pretty up-to-date on farms these days and is a practical tool not just for computer nerds.
