KIDS TO FARMS
Kids to Farms was supported by funding from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry as part of the Educating Kids about Agriculture: Kids to Farms program. In Tasmania, this project was run by TFGA from 2020 until 2022. The project enabled primary schools to access funding to cover transport costs when taking students on excursions to farms, and other sites that could offer food and fibre production experiences. Across the course of the project, ------ students were able to enjoy the experience of an exciting hands-on, experiential learning day.
Student-led research has explored how students felt about their excursions, what they enjoyed most, what they would change and other interesting insights. This will help to inform future projects.
TFGA has loved the opportunity to be involved in Agricultural education and is exploring ways to fund continuation of activities such as bus funding and supporting school teachers to engage in this exciting area of teaching and learning.
Kids to Farms has also offered professional learning for teachers, activities for student and families at various events and in school workshops on topics such as biosecurity.
